2,010 Rohingyas reached Bhasan Char in Noakhali in the fourth phase of the Rohingya relocation at around 1:45 pm on Monday. Among them – 485 are women, 577 are men and 948 are children.
Five navy ships left for Bhasan Char from Patenga Navy’s Ready Response Berth in Chattogram in the morning.
Earlier, they reached Chattogram by road on Sunday and kept in a temporary camp at BAF Shaheen College ground at night.
It is learned that about 4,000 Rohingyas will be brought to Bhasan Char in the fourth phase step by step.
“After the initial medical examination, the Rohingyas were get-off from the ship, gathered in a car and briefed at the warehouse. Later, they were shifted to Bhasan Char cluster,” said Bhasan Char police OC Md. Mahe Alam.
According to the concerned sources, 6,688 people were shifted to Bhasan Char from different camps in Cox’s Bazar in three phases earlier.
1,642 people were relocated in the first phase on December 4 last year, then 1,804 people in the second phase on December 29 and 3,242 people were relocated in the third phase on January 29, 30.
About another 4,000 people are being prepared to be relocated to Bhasan Char on Monday and Tuesday.
8 lakh Rohingyas took refuge in Bangladesh after crossing the border on August 25, 2017, in the face of inhumane killing and torture in Myanmar. At present, the number of Rohingyas registered in 34 asylum camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf is 1.1 million or 11 lakh. The government is in the process of relocating about one lakh Rohingyas to Bhasan Char.
