The Roads and Highways Department has conducted an eviction drive in Chandnaish upazila of Chattogram. At that time, more than two hundred illegally built structures were evicted and 4 acres of land worth of Tk 200 crore was recovered.

The raid was carried out by the Roads and Highways Department in the Sadar area of Dohazari municipality of the upazila on Sunday. Roads and Highways Department Executive Engineer Project Manager Md Jahid Hossain, Sub-Divisional Engineer, Deputy Project Manager, Engineer Tahsina Binte Islam, and others were present at the eviction drive for more than six hours.

It is learned that under the Cross Border Road Network Improvement Project, a notice was issued to the owners and occupants of these illegally built structures two months ago with a view to evicting these for widening the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway. But the eviction drive has been carried out as the traders did not evict these illegal establishments even after receiving compensation within the stipulated time.

Some traders obstructed the eviction drive. They started hurling brickbats as soon as the authorities began the eviction drive. Later, the police brought the situation under control.

Chandnaish Police Station OC Nasir Uddin Sarkar said police arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control. No complaint was received in this regard.
