2 passport brokers arrested in Cumilla

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two active members of the passport brokers' gang in Cumilla on Tuesday.

They were arrested from Kangshangar Bazar under Burichang police station and Barkat Bazar area under Chandina police station on Tuesday afternoon.

The arrestees are Amir Khan, son of Rustam Ali of Hasnabad village under Cumilla district's Debidwar police station and Monirul Islam, son of Abdus Samad of Tambulia village under Chandina police station. 

During the drive, RAB recovered various documents including passport, personal delivery slip of passport, laptop and mobile phone, and Tk 8,000.

According to the RAB, during the preliminary interrogation, the detainees admitted that they were active members of the passport brokers' gang. They have been extorting huge amounts of money from the people in the name of making passports for a long time. After depositing money with them, they used to prepare the necessary documents in various ways, complete all the activities, collect the passports from the passport office and supply them.

Major Mohammad Sakib Hossain, company commander of RAB-11, CPC-2, said legal action would be taken against the detainees at the concerned police station in Cumilla district.
