At least two people have been killed after the Taliban opened fire at a crowd celebrating independence day in Asadabad of Afghanistan.
Al Jazeera confirmed the report on Thursday afternoon local time, citing the witnesses.
According to Al Jazeera reports, Taliban fighters fired at people in Jalalabad waving the Afghan flag during independence day celebrations, injuring a man and a teenage boy.
Charlotte Bellis, a reporter of Al Jazeera in Kabul, said there were some “isolated protests” by people, including women, linked to the flag in Kabul. They waved the old flag to the Taliban fighters and shouted “Our flag is our identity”.
Meanwhile, the evacuations process is still underway in Kabul airport.
US President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that he will keep soldiers in Afghanistan until “every American is evacuated” till the August 31 deadline.
