2 killed in Narsingdi factional clash

Two people were shot dead in clashes between two groups of villagers in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Tuesday morning. Five more people were injured in the clash. The incident happened in the Mirpur area of the upazila’s Charranchal. 

The deceased were identified as Iqbal, son of Kawnia Mia of Baluchar village and Aman Ullah, son of Saikat Mia of Mizarchar's Maddhayapara area of the same UP. 

Narsinghdi’s ASP Zakir Hasan said, “After the last Mizarchar UP election, there was a dispute between the victorious chairman Awami League leader Zafar Iqbal Manik and supporters of the defeated chairman Awami League leader Farukul Islam.”

“Earlier, the supporters of the UP chairman Manik was absent after the incident in the clash between supporters of both the parties. Three days ago, they returned to the area,” ASP informed.  

“On Tuesday morning, supporters of Farukul Islam attacked the supporters of Manik with firearms suddenly. In this, seven people were shot. Later, they were taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital,” ASP Zakir also said.  

“The duty doctors declared two of them dead. Three seriously injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The remaining two were being treated at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital,” he added.
