2 individuals fined Tk 28 lakh for cutting hill in Chattogram

The Department of Environment has fined two people Tk 28 lakh for illegally cutting down a hill at Greenledge Bank hill in the Askar Dighirpar area in Chattogram.
Following a hearing on Monday, Environment Department Chattogram Metropolitan Director Mohammad Nurullah Noori ordered the fine. At the same time, it was directed to pay the fine within the next seven days. The convicts are Sanjit Dutt and Dr. Dardaus Shah.
Mohammad Nurullah Noori said a team from the environment department found evidence in an inspection of hill-cutting news at Greenledge Bank hill on May 18. They cut 28,000 cubic feet of the hill without permission. In this context, after the hearing on Monday, the accused have been fined Tk 28 lakh.
He added that they were cutting down the hill to build a multi-story building. Later it was instructed not to cut hills. No development work can be done without permission.
