2-day Jor Ijtema begins on Turag banks

A two-day Jor (preparatory) Ijtema, a congregation of Muslims, began on the banks of the Turag River in Tongi of Gazipur with ‘Aam Bayan’ (general sermons) on Friday. The first phase of the Jor Ijtema will end on Saturday (December 19) with the ‘Akheri Munajat’ (final prayers).
Due to the COVID situation in the country, the worshipers have been instructed to wear masks and follow the hygiene rules. The administration has given advance instructions not to allow any worshiper to stay outside Tinshed.
Imam Shura-i-Nezam of Kakrail Jame Mosque in Dhaka presided over and the followers of Hafiz Maulana Jubaer Ahmed Ansari, the top scholar of Tabligh Jamaat, took part in the Jor Ijtema. Meanwhile, the worshipers of Pakistan and India have taken positions on the ground.
The Jor Ijtema was held at Tinsed, next to Munnu Cotton Textiles Mills on the north side of the Maidan. Devotees from four districts have taken part in this Ijtema. Of these, 2,500 from Dhaka district, 700 from Gazipur district, 400 from Tangail district and 400 from Manikganj district have been scheduled to participate. In all, 4,000 devotees will be able to take part in this Jor Ijtema.
Tongi West Police OC Md. Shah Alam said the administration has given 24 hours from 10:00 am on Friday to 10:00 am on Saturday to hold a consultative meeting at Ijtema Maidan with the accomplices of the three Chillas.
