The Regent Hospital in the capital has been sealed on charges of irregularities and corruption. All activities of the hospital have been stopped. It was decided to seal the hospital as it was turned into an arena of irregularities. Meanwhile, the patients admitted to the hospital have been transferred to others.
The hospital was sealed off in the presence of RAB executive magistrate Sarwar Alam on Tuesday afternoon. Besides, the Regent Hospital in Mirpur is also in the process of sealing, said Sarwar Alam.
He said the vehicle of Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahid was seized at the beginning of the operation. Besides, cases are being filed against 17 people including the chairman of Regent Group.
The RAB executive magistrate said the Regent Hospital authorities have given more than 6,000 fake coronavirus test reports during the crisis period of the country; which is very sensitive. That is why the hospital has been sealed.
At the end of the operation, Sarwar Alam said, coronavirus test reports were given here without testing. The people involved in the hospital used to give fake reports by throwing away the samples. These reports were attested with fake seal and signatures.
These misdeeds were done from the head office of the regent, for which it has been sealed. Besides, the Mirpur and Uttara branches of the hospital have also been sealed by transferring the patients, added Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam.
He further said that even though the hospital was supposed to conduct the Covid-19 test free of cost, each patient was charged Tk 3,500. In addition, they used to collect samples from the people out of the prescribed patients and collect extra money from them. Thus far they have misappropriated around Tk 3 crore.
Earlier in the afternoon, raids were carried out at the Mirpur and Uttara branches of the Regent Hospital on allegations of medical malpractice.
Eight people have been arrested in the incident. Legal action will also be taken against the chairman of the organization and all involved.
