2 Rohingya drug traders killed in Bandarban gunfight

Two Rohingya drug traders were killed in a gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) along Tumbru border of Naikkhongchhari upazila in Bandarban early Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Yasin, and Hossain Ali, both of them are residents of Kutupalong camp in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar.

A team of BGB during regular patrolling spotted a group of people who were dealing with drugs in the News Bridge area around 5:30 am, said Commanding Officer of BGB-34 Battalion Lt Col Ali Haidar Azad Ahmed.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on the BGB men, forcing them to fire back in self-defence.

At one stage of the gunfight, Yasin and Hossain were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while their cohorts managed to flee. 

A gun, two rounds of bullets were recovered from the spot, the BGB official added.
