17 Jamaat men held in Sherpur

Police arrested 17 leaders and activists of Jamaat in Sherpur during an anti-state conspiracy and secret meeting. 

They were arrested from a private hospital called 'Darus Shifa' at Narayanpur Bagbari on the basis of secret information on Monday (October 18) afternoon.

The arrested are - Chhotan, the alleged driver of Jamaat's top leader Kamaruzzaman, who was hanged for war crimes,  Jamaat leaders Abdur Rauf and Golam Kibria, Rafiqul Islam of Bagraksa mahalla of Sherpur city, Sams Uddin, Anisur Rahman and Shafiqul Islam of Sajbarkhila mahalla, Bulbul Ahmed of Kandapara mahalla, Abdul Monaf Khan of Digharpar mahalla, Abdur Rauf, son of Abdul Bari of Jhinaigati upazila, Golam Mostafa of Jangaldi village of the union and six others.

Police said they raided the hospital on the basis of secret information that they had met in a secret meeting to create chaos, including communal riots, over the recent Cumilla incident. At that time, 17 leaders and activists were arrested. Some evidence including 23 mobile phones were seized from their possession.

Sherpur Sadar Police Inspector (Investigation) Bande Ali, said they are investigating the matter to know more.
