Several areas in Dinajpur have been newly inundated by the floodwaters of Punarbhaba, Atrai and Ichhamati rivers. More than 1,500 families have been flooded. Many of them have left their homes with their families and taken shelter on the embankment.

According to the Dinajpur Water Development Board, the water of a river in the district is flowing over the danger level.

The water of the Punarbhaba river is flowing at 32.60 meters. The Atrai river of the district is flowing over 39.960 meters at present as against the danger level of 39.650 meters.

In addition, the small river Jamuna is currently flowing at 28.960 meters as against the danger level of 29.950 meters.

As a result of the rising water level of the Punarbhaba river, more 1,500 people of the Bangibecha Bridge area, Baluadanga Hathatpara, Lalbagh, Rajapara Ghat, Biral Majhadanga and Natunpara of Dinajpur Sadar Upazila have been flooded. There is a lack of dry food and clean water in those areas.

Dinajpur Water Development Board surveyor Mahabub Alam said the water of the Atrai river in the district has been flowing over the danger level since morning. Besides, two other rivers Punarbhaba and Chhota Jamuna are near to cross the danger level. The water of the rivers of the district is increasing due to rain and onrush of upstream water. If it rains, the water level in the rivers is expected to rise further. If there is no rain, the water in the rivers will start decreasing.
