The government is planning to construct at least 15 'radial roads' to develop Dhaka's communication infrastructure. Two circular road infrastructures (ring roads), as well as radial roads, will be implemented. If the plan is implemented, Dhaka's traffic will be divided. Experts believed that traffic congestion in the city will be reduced and the traffic will be smooth.
Concerned people said that the road infrastructures in Dhaka have not been built scientifically. A review of the existing road infrastructure in Dhaka reveals a chaotic scene. In this situation, people are not getting the desired benefits even after the implementation of mega projects.
They said it is very important to implement two ring roads (inner and outer) to manage sustainable traffic system in Dhaka city. However, it will have to ensure that the city borders must not cross the Outer Ring Road. If Dhaka city expands up to that, these ring roads will not be beneficial and many more ring roads will have to be built.
It has been reported that two ring roads and at least 15 radial roads have been proposed in the draft Detailed Area Plan (DAP) being prepared by the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK). The plan for the period from 2016 to 2035 is likely to be published as a gazette soon. The proposed radial roads include Zahirul Islam City Road in Aftabnagar, Old Demra Road, Dhaka-Chattogram Highway, Ashkona Road, Shahkabir Mazar Road, Khilkhet Dumni Road, Diabari Road, Abdullahpur Mainar Tech Road, Dhaka-Ashulia Road, Birulia road, Bosila-Atibazar Road, Dhaka-Mawa Highway, Purbachal 30 feet road and Madani Avenue road. One of these radial roads will connect one and some two ring roads.
