15 injured in cops-RMG workers clash over wage in Savar

RMG workers of garment factories in different parts of the capital have been protesting for a few days demanding cancellation of the ‘discriminatory’ wage board announced by the government for them.

In this continuation, on Tuesday morning, workers of 15 garment factories protested at different places of Savar. Police threw tear shells to control the situation. At least 15 workers were injured.

Workers started protesting in the morning at Bagabari area of ​​Hemayetpur, Savar. When the police came to control the situation, chaos and counter-footing with the workers happened. But the situation became normal when the police threw 100 bullet rounds and baton charge.

Meanwhile, when the workers of the Kathgara Bazar area of Ashulia are demonstrating in the streets, police threw baton charge and tear gas to foil the demo and the situation became normal.

The protesters said that the declaration of workers’ minimum pay structure was issued in December. But the owners’ did not maintain the pay structure. There are many discrimination and gap between operators and helpers. They demanded to remove the gap.

In this regard, Inspector of Industrial Police-1 Mahbubur Rahman said, “The situation is normal now. Additional police forces have been deployed at different important places in Savar and Ashulia industrial areas to avoid any trouble.”
