At least 15 people were injured in a collision between two buses at Narandi bus stand on Dhaka-Kishoreganj road at Manohardi in Narsingdi around 11:30 am on Sunday.
Witnesses said a BRTC bus heading to Katiadi collided with a Dhaka-bound Manohardi Paribahan bus from Mathkhola leaving 15 injured including two drivers.
The injured were identified as BRTC bus driver Shahidul Islam, 49, and Manohardi Paribahan driver Rafiqul Islam, 35, passenger Omar Farooq (45) of Belab upazila, Junaid (42) of Binnabaid area, Vijay Kumar (52) of Katiadi upazila, Ranjit Kumar (30) of Netrokona district, Juman (20) of Manohardi, Abdul Malek (23) of Charmandalia and Sadhan Chandra of Hatirdia, Renu Mia (60), Al-Amin (31), Wasim (20) and Ujjwal Mia (18) of Kishoreganj.
The injured are being treated at Manohardi Upazila Health Complex and Narsingdi Hospital.
Manohardi Fire Service and Civil Defense Assistant Station Officer Saiful Islam said the driver of the BRTC bus was crushed inside the vehicle. After trying for about two hours, the driver Shahidul was rescued and sent to the hospital.
Manohardi Police Station OC Mohammad Anichur Rahman said, "Looking at the position of the vehicle, it seems that two vehicles collided while trying to overtake. Two vehicles have been brought into police custody. The exact cause of the accident will be known subject to investigation."
