The Coast Guard has rescued 14 sailors from a sunken ship in a thrilling operation at Sandwip in Chattogram on Monday night.

The ship 'MV Karina One' was going to Dhaka from Chattogram carrying about 2000 tons of wheat. When it reached the place between Sandwip and Bhasanchar, water entered through the bottom of the ship. Later, the ship caught fire and sank in the sea. Upon receiving the news, the Coast Guard patrol ship Shyamal Bangla rushed to the spot and rescued all 14 sailors. Then on Tuesday, they were brought to the Coast Guard Patenga berth.

All the rescued sailors have been given first aid. They will be handed over to the authorities at the end of various processes.

Lieutenant commander Akhizul Haque, commander of Shyamal Bangla said, "We went and saw smoke coming out from the engine room. We rescued all the sailors leaving the ship due to risk and brought them at ashore."
