13 dead as trawler capsizes in Bay, 10 missing

13 people were reported dead on Tuesday morning as a trawler capsized near Chera Dip at St. Martin of Cox’s Bazar in the Bay of Bengal on their way to Malaysia illegally. 10 people are still missing in the incident.

It has been known that all the passengers of trawler are Rohingyas. 

Confirming the matter to Daily Bangladesh, Lt. Commander Nayeem Ul-Haque, station commander of St. Martin Coast Guard, said that 13 bodies were recovered till 9:30 am. “The death toll may increase.” 

Teknaf Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das said that 65 people were rescued alive in the incident. “There were 80 Rohingyas on that trawler.” 

Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard members are conducting rescue operations on the spot. 

The identity or details of the deceased could not be known yet.
