At least 12 people have been killed in a head-on collision between a Rajshahi-bound Uttara Express train and a bus leaving Panchbibi at the Puranapail rail gate in Joypurhat on Saturday morning. At least five others were injured in the accident.
After the accident, the railway communication with the northern region has been shut down, confirmed Joypurhat DC Shariful Islam.
Sadar police inspector (investigation) Md. Habibur Rahman said the accident took place when a bus was crossing the Puranapail rail crossing in Sadar on Saturday morning. In the incident, the bus was crumpled. The bus was carrying at least 15 passengers.
The local police administration, BGB and fire service are conducting rescue operations at the spot.
