11 get life term over Ctg murder case

A court in Chattogram today has sentenced 11 people to life imprisonment in the murder case of Monirul Alam of the district’s Sandwip upazila.
Judge AKM Mozammel Haque of the Chattogram Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal announced the verdict on Thursday afternoon.
The convicts are – Maksudur Rahman Prakash Shahin Chairman, Jamal, Abdur Rahman Prakash Rahman Huzur, Ahsan Ullah, Altaf Hossain, Mehraj, Mannan, Faruque, Fuli Mia, Ashraf and Abdur Rahman.
Nine accused were present in the court when the verdict was announced. The other two – Abdur Rahman and Ashraf - are fugitives. Punishment warrants, as well as arrest warrants, were issued against them.
Confirming the matter, Ayub Khan Roy, the state counsel for the Chattogram Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal, said the court sentenced 11 people to life imprisonment and a fine of Tk 10,000 and one more year non-payment imprisonment.
On July 31, 2015, the accused hacked Monirul Islam to death in Jalepara of Sholashahar in Magdhara UP. The next day, the victim’s brother Rabiul Alam Sameer filed a murder case with the Sandwip police station. The case was later produced at the speedy trial tribunal in 2018. The court announced the verdict today after a long testimony.
