A total of 1,086 distressed and homeless families received brick-built houses in Pabna as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of the ‘Mujib Borsho’, the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Kabir Mahmud, Deputy Commissioner of Pabna confirmed the matter to Daily Bangladesh.
At a cost of around Tk 19 crore, houses along with two hundred acres of land have been handed over to the homeless in the first phase on the occasion of the birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
According to district administration sources, 1,086 families in 9 upazilas of the district received these brick-built houses in the homeless shelter project. The two-room houses have brick walls, concrete floors, and colored tin canopies. The house has a kitchen, toilet, and front porch.
Sources said the UP chairmen sent the list of uprooted and landless families to the concerned department. The information was sent from the Upazila Land Office to the concerned ministry after checking and sorting the list of families who do not have land or house. The list of homeless is then finalized. The district and upazila level monitoring committees are regularly monitoring the houses to make them sustainable and standard.
DC Kabir Mahmud said that distribution of these houses is the implementation of the announcement of the Prime Minister. The real landless and homeless families have received these houses. As a result, the families will get social status and new address. Proper supervision has been done to ensure that no unethical facilities are taken advantage of in the allotment of houses.
