Stranded 108 metric tonnes Indian onions entered into Bangladesh through Bhomra land port of Satkhira on Sunday evening. In two days, a total of 829 metric tons of Indian onions entered through this port. Earlier, 31 trucks onions weighing 721 metric tonnes enter through Bhomra port on Saturday after 5 days of suspension.

Mostafizur Rahman Nasim, general secretary of the Bhomra C&F Agents Association said the onions that were released on September 14 had entered into Bangladesh on Saturday and Sunday.

He said 36 trucks of onions have entered Bangladesh in the last two days. Ten more trucks of onions get laissez-passer to enter into Bangladesh. The remaining 10 trucks of onions will enter in phases from Monday.

Nasim added that Indian government was preparing to export the remaining onions waiting at the Indian border but was not allowing them to enter. Most of the onion trucks have been stranded at the Indian border for almost a week. As a result, traders have suffered financial losses.

Mohsin Hossain, revenue officer of Bhomra land port, said 721 metric tonnes (31 trucks) of onions entered Bhomra land port through Ghojadanga in India till last Saturday evening and 108 metric tonnes (5 trucks) on Sunday evening. However, no truck loaded with onions has entered through Bhomra port since Monday morning.
