100 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine will be available from various sources this year, said Meerjady Sabrina Flora, additional director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
She told the information in a report of the Bangla part of Voice of America (VOA) on Wednesday.
“The issue of local vaccine production is also under active consideration,” Sabrina Flora also told the media.
Citing Health Minister Zahid Maleque, the report said the government was trying to buy 70 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The vaccine will be purchased in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank under the World Health Organization and Gavi-run COVAX facility. The United States will provide 50 million doses of vaccine to the world’s poorest countries. Bangladesh is also on this list.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Dr. Abdul Momen is not at all optimistic about getting the vaccine. He told a press conference on Tuesday that the “big scholars were just talking about vaccines, mainly, they were just showing off. We are just listening to their story, but don’t see any interest in giving”.
