Injured policemen taking treatment at hospital
Ten naval policemen were injured in an attack by fishermen at Meghna in Chandpur in an operation to save mother hilsa. The incident took place in Laxmirchar area of Rajrajeshwar UP in Sadar upazila on Sunday morning. The injured have been given first aid at Chandpur Government General Hospital.
Seriously injured are naval police SP Md. Helal Uddin, Naval Police Inspector Mujahidul Islam, Naik Iqbal, Shahjalal, Constable Amin, Ferdous Sheikh, Niloy, Al Mamun Talukder and Monaim.
Several other naval police officers were also reported injured. They have been sent to the local health complex for treatment.
Naval Police Inspector Md. Mujahidul Islam said they came to Chandpur with 100 naval policemen from the Dhaka headquarters to take part in mother hilsa protection activities. Adding a launch and five speedboats, the naval police team set out to protect mother hilsa in Meghna.
He added that the fishermen in Laxmirchar attacked them at 10:30 am. Naval police fired rubber bullets and blank shots to escape the attack and control the situation.
