At least ten people have been killed when a three-storey building collapsed in the neighboring Bhiwandi area of India’s commercial capital of Mumbai.
It is learned that 25 people were feared trapped inside the building.
The accident took place on Monday morning, NDTV quoted the Thane Municipal Corporation as saying, “Ten people have died, we have rescued 11 people alive.”
According to the report, the accident took place around 3:45 am local time on Monday. The country’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and fire service then arrived and launched a rescue operation.
Besides eight people killed in the building collapse, five people have been rescued alive so far. NDRF and fire brigade are conducting rescue operations.
The NDRF said locals had rescued about 20 people. However, according to preliminary information, it is feared that 20 to 25 people are still trapped under the rubble.
