The court rejected the bail petition of Barrister Mainul Hosein in the Digital Security Act for making defamatory statements against journalist Masuda Bhatti.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah passed the order on Monday after hearing arguments from both sides. Advocate Sanaullah Mia and Syed Joynal Abedin Mejbah heard the bail plea of Barrister Mainul Hossain.

Sanaullah Mia said in the hearing that the case is a bailiff clause. There is no complain of the plaintiff who charged this case. Why did he (the plaintiff) sue?

“The whole nation knows what he (Barrister Mainul) said about Masuda Bhatti. There is nothing said about the plaintiff here. All he said to Masuda Bhatti. Why would another sue? The case is a bailiff, we want bail for the accused,” Sanaullah Mia also said.

Public prosecutor of the Dhaka Metropolitan Court, Abu Abdullah, opposed Barrister Mainul’s bail on behalf of the state. After hearing the both, the judge rejected the bail petition.

On November 1, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court issued warrant arrest against Barrister Mainul Hosein. Later, the court fixed November 29 to submit the report of the case.
