1 to die, 6 others sentenced over caught with Tk 22cr cocaine

A court in Khulna today has sentenced a man to death in a drug case Besides, five others have been sentenced to different terms of imprisonment.
Khulna Senior District and Sessions Judge Mashiur Rahman Chowdhury announced the verdict on Thursday afternoon.
The accused were present when the verdict was handed over.
The convicted accused was identified as Bikash Chandra Biswas while the different terms of imprisonment accused are - Sohail Rana, Chagir, Bikash Chandra Mandal, Ershad, and Fazlur Rahman Fakir.
Khulna court’s PP Enamul Haque said the court sentenced the accused Bikash Chandra Biswas to death and fined him Tk one lakh. Besides, Sohail Rana was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Tk one lakh, Chagir got 15-years in jail and was fined Tk one lakh with another 2-years of imprisonment for non-payment, and Bikash Chandra Mandal, Ershad, and Fazlur Rahman Fakir was sentenced to 10-years in jail and fined Tk 25,000 with one more year imprisonment for non-payment.
Citing the statement of the case, Enamul Haque said, RAB-6 conducted a raid at the Moylapota junction area in Khulna city on August 11, 2017, at around 9:45 pm. When some people tried to escape, RAB arrested Sohail Rana. When asked him the reason for fleeing, he replied “he had cocaine”. Later, RAB seized 230 grams of cocaine, worth Tk 2.30 crore, from him.
Later, a total of 2.20 kg of cocaine, worth Tk 22.50 crore, was recovered from the houses of the other accused, based on Sohail’s information. Later, RAB official Md. Rabiul Islam filed a case against the detainees under the Narcotics Act filed with Rupsha police station.
