At least one person died and 20 others remained missing as seven fishing trawlers sank in the Bay of Bengal near Banshkhali in Chattogram.

These incidents happened at different times on Tuesday morning. 

The body was recovered from the coastal area of ​​Chambal Union in the upazila at noon. The Coast Guard is conducting rescue operations for search of 20 missing fishermen.

Banshkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Saiduzzaman Chowdhury said six trawlers sank in Chambal Union area and one in Shekherkhil Union area of ​​the upazila at different times on Tuesday morning. About 20 fishermen went missing. The body of a man was recovered with the help of local fishermen in Chambal Union area at noon. The matter has been reported to the Coastguard. They have been conducting rescue operations since the afternoon.

Chattogram Coast Guard Staff Officer (Operations) Lt. Commander Habibur Rahman said, "We got the news of the sinking of the trawlers in Banshkhali coastal area around 4 pm." Immediately our ship left for the scene. Rescue operations are currently underway."

The meteorological office warned that a low pressure had formed in the North Bay and adjoining areas. As a result, the North Bay and its adjoining areas are experiencing high air pressure variations and deep circulating clouds. Stormy winds can blow over the coastal areas of Bangladesh, North Bay and seaports.

In this situation, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports were asked to show local warning signal number three.
