Abdul Mannan expresses his love to Bangabandhu by making the boat. His boats have different paintbrush with Alpana. He also highlighted memories with these boats.

Abdul Mannan himself is a brave freedom fighter who responded the call of Bangabandhu and went to Liberation War. He killed Pakistani soldiers, Niharis, and several Rajakars during the War of Liberation.

Everyone in the area knows that he is a freedom fighter. However, after 47 years of independence, he has not been recognized as a freedom fighter. But Mannan never bows down his head to anyone yet. He continues his life with struggle and this boat has become the main source of his life.

Abdul Mannan is the son of Mohabbat Ali Chowdhury of Saragopalpur village of Ishwardi Municipality.

Abdul Mannan said, “After six to seven days of marriage, the liberation war started. I left the house to save the country. I took part in several areas of war in Iswardi. That time, Company Commander is Kazi Sadrul Haque Sudha, Commander John. And the group leader was Ziaul.”

He also said, “After Independence, I used to live as a rickshaw puller, worked as a day laborer. Even, I used to work in a rickshaw garage and maintained my family income.”

“Then suddenly, I changed the profession. 20 years ago, I started making boats with pieces of tins. From then, I devote my life in boat building profession.”

Everyone has bought the boat from him to give a gift to the Awami League or to a leader. Although he did not give much importance at first, he got to be known as ‘Boat Mannan’ in the area. His handmade boat is decorating in shelves of many ministers and leaders of the country.

When freedom fighter Mannan sees fake freedom fighters all over the area and they got government privileges, he became angry and emotional.

He became emotional when talking to Daily Bangladesh correspondent in front of his small shop.

Abdul Mannan said, “When I see Razakars that getting the benefits of independence, I cannot hold the tears. There are three to four freedom fighters in Sargagopalpur. They get all the benefits from the government.”

In Ishwardi Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad, it is known that a paper has been submitted by the freedom fighters ministry (No- DGI 101287). But his name has not been mentioned on the list of freedom fighters.

Freedom fighter Khandaker Kamruzzaman of the area said, “Abdul Mannan fought with them. It is very sad to not include his name on the list of freedom fighters.”
